Joseph H. Barnhart, 77, retired Piatt County farmer, died suddenly Wednesday, September 22, 1948 at his home in Monticello. Death was presumably caused by a heart attack. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 24 in the Monticello Methodist church with burial in Monticello Cemetery.
Mr. Barnhart was born August 20, 1871 near Mansfield, s/o John and Artimecia Hursh Barnhart. He married Emma Hummel on January 27, 1904. They farmed west of Monticello and retired three years ago to live in the city. Surviving are his wife; a son, Lyle of Clinton IA; two brothers: Miles G. of Pontiac and George E. of Hutchinson KS; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Opal Hough (1924-1946) of Sandwich, who was killed in an auto accident in 1945.
He was a veteran of World War I.
