Husband of Coree Varnum Barber.

Bonnie C. Barber, age 74, resident of Midland, GA., died on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus on Thursday, May 22, 2008, 2 p.m. with Reverend (Dr.) Kevin Calhoun officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. Mr. Barber, son of the late Bonnie Benjamin Barber and Lillie Mae Croom Barber, was born November 30, 1933 in Donaldsonville, GA. He was both a U.S. Navy and Air Force veteran and proudly served his country honorably in the Korean Conflict. After leaving the military he pursued a career in law enforcement, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. He then served the City of Columbus in the Columbus Police Department, devoting over 22 years of faithful service. Bonnie and his wife Coree are probably best remembered as the Co-Owners and Founders of Barber's Driving School. Mr. Barber was a member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Coree Varnum Barber. Mr. Barber is survived by two sons, Bradley B. Barber and his wife Joanie of Conyers, GA., and Alfred R. Barber of Midland, GA.; grandchildren, Brian Barber, Blair Barber, and Brooke Barber of Conyers, GA.; Truett Barber Fink of Huntsville, AL., and Alfred R. Barber, Sr of Columbus; two sisters, Ruth Slarico and her husband Hank of Columbus and Myrna Couty and her husband Wallace of Columbus; three brothers; Oree Barber of Hauchuia City, AZ, John Barber of Midland, GA., and Monroe Barber and his wife Faye of Unadilla, GA.; other relatives and friends.
