James Lindsay was born in 1764, he sailed with parents Thomas and Elizabeth Lindsay with his siblings Thomas Lindsay, age 1, his sisters, Agnes and Elizabeth and with other Lindsay family members. They sailed on the ship Earl of Hillsborough from Belfast, North Ireland on Christmas Eve in 1766 and arrived in Charleston, South Carolina in February 1767. An Abandoned York County Cemetery

"Sacred / To the memory of / James LINDSEY/ Who died 1st March / 1838 / Aged 77 years / 8 Months and 6 days. Farewell my wife and children dear Adieu to all both far and near When Christ appears I then shall rise And see you with immortal eyes."

It is not known when James Lindsey came to America from Ireland. He applied for citizenship in 1809. On his petition, James stated that he was an alien, and a subject of the King of Great Britain. James Lindsey's son, Robert Lindsey, was born in York County circa 1792, so James had to have been in the county by that time.

James Lindsey received two grants for land on Turkey Creek in 1817, one for 422 acres, and another for 125 acres. His son, Robert, lived on the Turkey Creek land until his death in 1888.

More from the Rootsweb site ..."This small collection of graves is located about three miles west of McConnells, S.C. Some have imagined it to be a former cemetery of Olivet Presbyterian Church, in McConnells, but this does not seem to be the case. The contributor's grandmother, who grew up in the vicinity, always referred to it as “the old Williams Graveyard.” No Williams tombstones, however, can be found there today..."

Note by Susan Grabek: I have read that the cemetery is located on Peace Haven Road, rather than Peach Haven Road.
