Irene Proctor Batts, 84, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020 due to complications with cancer. She was born on January 3, 1936 in Edgecombe County to the late George Proctor, Sr. and Minnie Lee Benson Proctor. Irene was a 1954 graduate of West Edgecombe High School. She was a lifelong member of West Edgecombe Baptist Church and was employed 15 years as its 1st church secretary. She also served as a Sunday School teacher and Library Director. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Kenneth Batts. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, George "Bubber" Proctor, Jr.
