Mr. Robert Eugene (Gene) Dowell, 75, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022, at his residence after a brief battle with cancer. Gene was born February 21, 1947, in Forsyth County to the late Robert Foy Dowell and Mary Lineback Dowell. He attended Gray High School, retired from Greyhound Bus Lines, and co-owned a black powder and archery store in the 1980s. Gene was an avid outdoorsman who rarely turned down the opportunity to spend time hunting or fishing with family and friends. One of his favorite pastimes was simply sitting in the woods, or on a shoreline, enjoying the beauty of God's creation. He was married to his loving wife Becky for over 57 years. He was a wonderful father to Dana, and when Gene became a "Papa," he treasured each any and every moment spent with his grandson, Robert, and could not have been prouder of him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Trellis Supportive Care of Winston-Salem, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Parkwy, Winston-Salem NC 27127. (choose "Other" and "Note: Leave It Better"). A memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be sent at www.hayworth-miller.com.
