He was an avid baseball player for thirty years at Leland and caught as many as three games in one day.

He later coached girls softball. He loved to play cards, pool, shuffle board, polish Petoskey stones, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Chuck wore many hats: he owned his own gas station (where the Early Bird in Leland is now), he was Leland Assistant Harbor Master under Pete Carlson, Leland Harbor Master for several years, heavy equipment operator for Little Finger Excavating, and Northport Harbor Master for four years before retiring, and also ran and lit up the firework shows for both Leland and Northport.

Chuck and his wife moved to Traverse City four years ago to live at Glen Eagle Retirement Community.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth, a brother and sister in law, Wencil (Mazie) Sedlacek; and sister-in-laws, Thena Nagel, and Inez (Owen) Smith.
