Harriet was the daughter of William Giggins Ashby (1841-1922) and Matilda Curtis (1841-1878). They lived at 55 Digby Road when she was born. She had two sisters, Amelia and Ellen. After their mother's early death, they were raised by their father's second wife, Jane Louisa Hooper née Sharpe. Harriet worked as a domestic, in 1891 in the household of Francis Collent, Amherst Road, Hackney, in 1911 in the travelling van of a travelling show family, Harry and Jane Hughes, in 1939 in the retired Hughes household at 4 Albert Street, Fleet, Hampshire. At the time of her death, she was living in Radnor Road Nursing Home, 19 Radnor Road, Handsworth, Birmingham. She was buried 7 March 1949.
