Joseph E Pope was born in Ireland and arrived in America in Sep 1832. Family notes say he was a cord winder, a bartender and later an engineer. He died from a fall from a 4 story house into the basement. He married Elizabeth Sophie McAlister in 1833. they were the parents of 5: Katherine Agatha , Josephine, Byron, Margarite Angelica, and Joseph.
Joseph was buried in the Philanthropic Cemetery but in 1867. Many of these graves were moved to the Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, PA. A call to that cemetery confirmed the transfer of graves but they did not have Joseph's name. They said that many graves came over but some of the names were lost. There is a Philanthropic section in their cemetery. Since there is no firm record of the change, this memorial will remain where it is as this was the original cemetery Joseph was interred.
