Clester

G.L. Clester, youngest son of Samuel and Sarah Elizabeth Clester, was born Nov. 24, 1883 in London township, this county, where he continued to reside until April 1918 when he left the old homestead and moved into Belle Plaine township, purchasing his brother William's farm. While loading a saw log at his late home on Feb. 19, the chain broke and he was fatally injured, being crushed by the falling log. He was taken to St. Francis hospital at Wichita and everything possible was done for his relief but to no avail. He passed away Feb. 22, 1920 at 5 o'clock a.m.

On Jan. 27, 1909 he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Rogers, of Zyba, Kansas. To this union two daughters were born, Bernice aged 10, and Lena, aged 8 years, who with their mother are left husbandless and fatherless.

Beside the immediate family he leaves three brothers, S.E. Clester of Okeene, Okla., William, of Belle Plaine, Kans. and Bert, of Zyba, Ks., many relatives, friends and neighbors to mourn his early departure.

He was a kind, considerate husband, an affectionate, indulgent father, a true brother, a faithful friend, an ardent diligent worker, frugal and honest in all his dealings. He will be sadly missed throughout the community in which he was born, reared, and died. We extend to the bereft our heartfelt sympathy in this their sad hour.

The funeral occurred from the late home Tuesday at 2 p.m., conducted by Elder J.D. Boyer, Interment was made in the family lot in the Porter Cemetery, with kindred gone on before.

Roy Clester Killed

Notice has just reached us of the rather tragic death of Roy Clester, a prominent young farmer of near Zyba. Last Friday while he was loading a log onto a wagon by means of a block and tackle, the chain with which the huge piece of timber was being pulled up the skids broke, allowing the log slip back, catching him between it and the stump, crushing his hips and injuring him internally so severely that he died two days later in a Wichita hospital.

Funeral services were held for him Tuesday of this week at the home near Zyba. Interment was made in the Simpson Cemetery. The deceased is survived by his young wife and two daughters, ages 8 and 10, and by two brother.

*NOTE: The top obituary states Porter Cemetery and the lower obituary states Simpson Cemetery, but he was laid to rest in the Belle Plaine Cemetery with the Clewell side of the family.
