Richard Leon "Rusty" was born to Carl Wilson and Edna Ruth Whalen King. He had five siblings, Nancy Lynette, Carl Wilson Jr., John Terry, Robert Farrell and Donald Edward King. Rusty married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Ruth Stewart on August 8, 1969 in Chelsea, Alabama. They had four children. Richard Leon Jr. (Ricky), Gregory Scott (Died when 3 days old), Stephen Kyle and Jeffery Stewart King.
Rusty was a handyman and a jack of all trades. He worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company before entering the construction field. He worked at Sentinel Lumber Company for many years, Mountain View Lumber Company, Holcombe Home Center all located in Chelsea. He was employeed by Perrin and Son as a truck driver at the time of his death. He suffered a massive heart attack while on the job.
