Brenda Bridges Futrell, 78, of Hickory, died Thursday, May 20, 2021, after several years of declining health.

She was born Dec. 27, 1942, in Hickory, the daughter of the late Cecil and Dorothy Bridges. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David M. Futrell; brother, Ronnie Bridges of Hickory; and brother-in-law, Charles Ray Woodard of Murfreesboro.

Brenda was born and raised in Hickory and a member of Viewmont Baptist Church. After meeting the love of her life, David, they spent the majority of their time together doing things they loved. Brenda and David were always a team, and whatever David was doing, Brenda was right there supporting and assisting him. In the early years, she helped with the Breakfast Optimist Club events, taught ballroom dance lessons, managed their rental properties, supported David's passion of photography, traveling together and spent a lot of time with family and friends.

Later she co-owned Hickory's Finest Custom Framing with David for over 35 years, where they met so many wonderful customers and friends. When Brenda wasn't helping David, you could find her spending time watching her favorite team, the Tar Heels, play football or basketball.

Later in life, Brenda devoted herself to being a wonderful caregiver to both her husband, David and her brother, Ronnie. She enjoyed every minute she could spending time with her daughters and grandchildren which made her so happy. Family was the most important thing to Brenda. She adored her daughters, and grandchildren. Brenda was the pillar of support for her family through times of many celebrations and through all of the trying times that would come. She dedicated herself to being the best mother and grandmother that she could possibly be.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Tracy Lumpkins and husband, Tim, of Oxford, and Kathy Mazurek and husband, Jason, of Charlotte; aunt, Peggy Hudson and husband, Bill, of Roanoke Rapids; sister-in-law, Caroleen Woodard; two brothers-in-law, Winborne Futrell and wife, Shirley, and Greer Futrell and wife, Sheriel, all of Murfreesboro; three grandchildren, Seth Lumpkins and wife, Mallory, of Oxford, AbbyKate Lumpkins of Oxford, and Logan Mazurek of Charlotte; great-granddaughter, Mary Owen Lumpkins of Oxford; and a number of special relatives in Murfreesboro and Roanoke Rapids.

A celebration of life for both Brenda and David will be held Friday, June 18, at 11 a.m., at Viewmont Baptist Church, 1246 2nd St. NE, Hickory, NC 28601.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the Arthritis Foundation, www.arthritis.org/donate, which Brenda was a big supporter. Also, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Catawba County, www.catawbahumane.org. Brenda had a love for animals, especially her granddogs and grandcat.
