Dr. Dickenson, Pioneer of 1846, Passes Away
HAYWARD, January 26. - Dr. William Le Grand Dickenson, who came across the plains to California, in 1846, died here yesterday after a ten-day's illness.
Dr. Dickerson was 86 years old and a native of Tennessee. His father, John Callent D. Dickenson, built the first brick house in Monterey. He at one time farmed 30,000 acres of land in Stanislaus county and was elected to the Legislature from that county.
Surviving him are a daughter, Mrs. Thama H. D. Speed of this city, and three grandchildren, William D., John M. and Thama H. Speed.
The funeral services, to be private, will be held here to-morrow afternoon.
