Mr Emmet Porter, a young man about twenty-two years of age, and son of M F Porter, was almost instantly killed Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock near Ivanhoe.

He had crossed the river to the Ivanhoe Furnace Company's mine and while there got on the locomotive to ride out of the mine. The engineer lost control of the engine and it ran under a trestle and young Porter was struck in the chest by a piece of timber, with the above mentioned result. The bereaved family has the sympathy of many friends.

The funeral service was held yesterday from the Forest Methodist church.
