Mrs. Alaway was born March 2, 1916, in McKendree Township, the daughter of Reason A. and Dora Bouton Howard. She married Walter "Dutch" Alaway Oct. 2, 1940, in Champaign. He preceded her in death March 10, 1989.
Survivors include: two children, Brian Kent Alaway of Tampa and Marilyn "Lynn" "(Larry) DeWeese of St. Joseph; three grandchildren, Matt (Becky) Dudley, Tracy DeWeese and Scott (Jennifer) DeWeese and three great-randchildren, Madison Dudley and Logan and Alissa DeWeese. She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters and three brothers.
Opal retired from Murrin Manufacturing in Westville. She was a 1933 graduate of Westville High School. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ of Westville and was one of the original founders of the Westville Public Library. She enjoyed reading, traveling, crossword puzzles, sports and was an avid fan of the Cubs, Illini and the Florida State Seminoles. She loved her family.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at Lakeside-Urbas Funeral Home in Westville; Officiating: Rev. Dennis Meyer; Burial:. Sandusky Cemetery; Visitation: 10-11 Saturday at the funeral home; Memorials: Champaign County Nursing Home or Provena Hospice Program."
