Doris was a graduate of Saint Joseph School of Nursing in Louisville, Kentucky. She had her BSN from George Mason University. She was a Vietnam veteran, serving as a Navy Nurse in Vietnam. She served on active duty from 1965 to 1974. She also served at the Naval Hospitals in San Diego and Boston. At the time of her death she was school nurse at Holy Redeemer School in Kensington and a former chairwoman of the nursing committee of the Montgomery County Red Cross. 


She died of injuries caused by a head-on collision caused by a driver who became distracted while attempting to close a cassette tape box.


Survived by husband, James , and two children, David and Maura ; her mother, Helen A.; brothers, Robert, Elmer, Garland, and John ; and six sisters, Edna, Helen, Mary Lou, Jane, Betsy, and Martha .
