When the 1860 census was taken, Martha lived in Cape Girardeau County MO, with her mother Charlotte, step-father William Mizell, brother John, step-sister and maternal grandmother. Her step-father was a farmer.
Martha Walker married Pleasant Eli Judson Bettis on October 28, 1874. The ceremony took place in Crittenden County. Their daughter Ida Elizabeth Bettis was born the following year. When the 1880 census was taken, Martha lived in the Hurricane section of Crittenden Co KY, with her husband and 6-year old daughter. Martha was keeping house and he was a farmer. Another daughter, Effie Irena Bettis was born in 1883.
According to most researchers, Martha A. Bettis died in Crittenden County on April 25, 1884. She was probably buried in Deer Creek Cemetery with her father-in-law Duke Bettis and other family. Her widowed husband married Emma Etta Coffman the following year, had seven children and moved to College Park, Georgia.
