Herman McGlothlin




Mr. Herman McGlothlin, age 91, of Swords Creek, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on 

April 1, 2024, at home surrounded by his lovingly devoted family. Born April 19, 1932, in Rowe, Virginia, he was the son of the late Elbert "Poppy" and Leah Victoria Hale McGlothlin. A lifelong resident of the area, Herman was a devout follower of the Holiness faith. Through the years, he found great enjoyment in hunting, camping, fishing, playing music, and spinning yarns to make others laugh.  


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Nelson, Clinton, and Carson; two sisters: Dorothy VanDyke and Carmie Clark; and a son-in-law, Sam Campbell.


Survivors include his wife of 68 years Ruth Hale McGlothlin; four daughters: Regina Stilwell and husband, Henry of Swords Creek, Virginia; Tammy Sutherland and husband, Ronnie of Cleveland, Virginia; Sherry Campbell of Abingdon, Virginia; and Karen Richardson and husband, Billy "Junior" of Honaker, Virginia; a daughter and son-in-law of the heart: Joan Keen, and husband, Don of Oakwood, Virginia; six grandchildren: Reginald Sutherland and wife, Kim; Lori Dye and husband, Chris; Aaron Stilwell and wife, Christy; Leah Blackwell and husband, Anthony; Evan Sutherland; and Emily Rose and husband, Blake; five great-grandchildren: Alex and Nicholas Dye, Abigail Sutherland, and Benjamin and Noah Mullins; one brother: Ferrell McGlothlin and wife, Lucille of Swords Creek, Virginia; and one sister: Sylvie VanDyke of Honaker, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews also survive.


Pallbearers will include Aaron Stilwell, Reginald and Evan Sutherland, Chris Dye, Alex and Nicholas Dye, Anthony Blackwell, Ben and Noah Mullins, and Blake Rose.  


Honorary Pallbearers will include Ron Hale, Don Keen, and nephews.


Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 3, 2024, in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia, with Reverend Jim Richardson and Reverend Dennis McGlothlin officiating. Entombment will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill, Virginia.
