She was born to John and Geneva Gilbert on January 28, 1946, in Roosevelt, UT. She had two brothers and five sisters. She grew up working in the family's business, The Polar Queen. When she graduated from High School she attended BYU University, where she met her husband, Rich Carlson.
They have been married for 56 years. They have four children, ten grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. They have split their married life between Lake Tahoe, CA, Carson City, Nevada and Henderson, Nevada. She loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and friends.
Jean's name should be next to the words Charity and Service in the dictionary. Her service in the church and temple were very important to her.
She is famous for her cards and notes. She didn't just send a card, she spent time picking out the perfect card and then writing the perfect personalized message.
Jean worked at SIIS/EMPLOYERS for a large part of her career. She was known as the office mom. Her office was a revolving door for people looking for advice, enjoy a conversation or learn from her. She kept all the office plants alive.
Jean ministered to many and to her, ministry was love. She loved all unconditionally and believed the best of everyone. If there was someone in need, Jean was there; a shoulder to cry on, a meal, fresh baked homemade brownies and hot fudge, a ride somewhere, whatever was needed.
She was especially there for her kids in the snowy weather in Carson City when they had to deliver papers at 6AM on a Sunday, and she made us put the papers on the porch because that was the best service. She never made you feel like she was doing you a favor, she made you feel special.
Jean/Mom had such a positive approach to everything in life, she was an example to all that knew her. She will be missed dearly.
