Regarding his name: It's found as I Q E Mason on the 1900 Census, and as Ira Cuellis /Quellis on his WW I Draft Registration. All other documents reference him as 'Ellis Mason.'

Ellis Mason and Cora Underwood were married Sept 11, 1920 in Itawamba County, MS, at the home of Cora's sister Mary Jane and brother-in-law Henry Mink.
Henry's father, the Rev. James Thomas Mink, performed the marriage vows.

While Cora and Ellis were NOT the biological parents of Elzy Underwood, they 'adopted' and loved him as their own.
So in honor of their commitment to Elzy, I'm adding him to their Memorials. Please, understand, that I am in NO way inferring that either Ellis or Cora is the biological parent of: Elzy Nolan Underwood

Uncle Ellis and Aunt Cora had a huge watermelon patch across the road from the front of their house. They grew nearly every kind and color of melon known at the time it seemed to this city kid. The taste of those sweet melons, on a sweltering August afternoon, is a wonderful memory. They always insisted that Dad take some home with us. The memories that remain of Uncle Ellis and Aunt Cora grow more precious and sweet than any of their melons.
