George Edward Chandler was born 20 October 1947 in Winnfield, LA to Louis Edward and Eddie Jones Chandler of the Bethlehem Community near Calvin, LA.

As he grew up he spent untold hours alone exploring the Kisatchie National Forest, which bordered his family's property. His time spent in the outdoors at an early age instilled in him a love for nature and a need to spend time alone in quiet places.

Following graduation from Calvin High School in 1965 he answered his country's call to military service by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in January 1967. While serving as a radar operator aboard ship and later as a Beach Jumper Unit 2 operator he was able to "travel the world" and visit 17 countries and sailed 17 different seas.

At the end of his Navy enlistment in late 1970 George enrolled at Louisiana Tech University majoring in Wildlife Conservation & Management. He graduated magna cum laude in the spring of 1974. A few months later he was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Park Ranger. After six years he was promoted to Park Manager where he supervised 45+ employees envolved in management of outdoor recreation areas and lands owned by the Corps of Engineers along the Ouachita, Black and Red rivers in Louisiana and Arkansas and the Bayou Bodcau Reservoir and Wallace Lake near Shreveport, LA. Nine years later he applied for and was selected as a Wildlife Biologist for these same areas. He remained in this, his most cherished position, until his retirement in 2002.

He is survived by wife Voilee of Ruston, LA, son William (Jennifer) and grandsons Liam and Gibson, all of Richardson, TX.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; sisters Jimmie Kay Jensen of Winnfield, LA and Yvonne Stapleton of Montgomery, LA; brothers Melvin Moore of Albany, GA and John C Bates of Yakima, WA.

George was cremated and his ashes were buried on his beloved hunting lease near Dubach, LA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
