Services for Relius "Chink" John Broussard Sr., 86, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peters Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Langlois officiating. Entombment will follow in Beau Pre Mausoleum with military graveside rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1982 Honor Guard.

Visiting hours will be observed today from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being recited by Ronald "Flat" Fremin at 7 p.m. at David Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Thursday at 8 a.m. until the time of service.

A native of Jeanerette and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Broussard died at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Consolata Nursing Home.

Mr. Broussard was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1982. He belonged to the Iberia Boxing Club which he brought to the Junior Olympics. In the late 1960s, he was the coach for the Iberia Youth Boxing Club which went to the Southern AAU Championship. He also prepared and coached Bobby Broussard for the National AAU Finals which was broadcast on national television. He was co-owner of Chinks Restaurant along with his wife Aline. He served in the National Guards during World War II. He later joined the regular Army based in Fort Hood, Texas and served in Germany and Korea. He was also well known as a baseball umpire for many years.

He is survived by his son, Relius J. Broussard Jr. and wife Cathy of Lafayette; five daughters, Rosalie "Busky" Roy, Evelyn B. Smith both of New Iberia, JoAnn B. Breaux and husband Breck of Loreauville, Toni B. Valenti and Ruth Renee B. Guidry and husband Bill all of New Iberia; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Broussard was preceded in death by his wife, Aline Marie Landry Broussard; parents, Noah and Adelia Moore Broussard; and three grandsons, Ryan E. Johnson, Scott A. Valenti and Troy W. Guidry.

Pallbearers will be Leon Roy III, Heath Elliot Breaux, Billy Guidry, Nicholas Broussard, Ian and Hugh Valenti and Jonathan Guidry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald "Flat" Fremin, Ron Fremin, Reggie Charles, Robert and Thomas Roy.
