Henry Jansen

Henry Jansen was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, March 1, 1831. The greater part of his life was spent in Germany. Here he was married to Miss Frederica Jansen in the year 1879. To this union were born eight children, five sons and three daughters. His wife died November 13, 1877. He was remarried to Mrs. Katrina Plumbeck of Germany in the year 1878. His family having preceded him to the United States, he and his wife followed in the year 1885.

He settled on a farm near Lost Nation, Clinton Co., Iowa. Here he remained ten years when he retired from the farm and moved to Manning. Here he laid away his second wife, November 3, 1903.

In the year 1909 he went to Dallas, S.D., where he made his home with his son, Fred, during the last ten years of his life.

He was a man of unusual vigor and lived to a great age without physician, medicine or sickness. He had no recollection of a sick day in all his life. He retained his powers in full strength to the last. His passing was but the quiet sleeping into the other world.

He leaves to morn his demise four sons and two daughters who are as follows; Louis and Fred, Dallas S.D., Henry at Wolsey S.D., Mrs. John Bolte, Davenport, Iowa, Joe Plumbeck, a step son at Wheatland, Iowa. Also 57 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren.

He was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Germany. He died at Dallas, S.D., January 14, 1920, aged 88 years, 10 months and 13 days.

The body was shipped to Manning, where services were held at the Presbyterian Church on Sabbath afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which the remains were consigned to their last resting place in the Manning Cemetery, Rev. Aller officiating.
