LONG ILLNESS OF J. L. BECK ENDS IN DEATH James Leslie Beck, life time resident of this and the Friendship communities, died at his home in the east part of town last Friday morning at about 2:00 o'clock, after two years of continued broken health, which forced him to give up active life, and three weeks of serious illness during which death had been momently expected.
Funeral services were held at his residence Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. E. C. Escoe, with prayer by Rev. J. P. Roberts at the grave. Burial was made at the Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. Beck was born September 19, 1869 near here and his sixty-two years of life were lived hereabout. He was married on July 17, 1887 to Miss Sophie Deets. To this union were born eight children: O. M. and E. L. Beck of Ralls, R. E. Beck, who passed away last April 1 at Sherman, Mrs. M. L. Beard, R. J., Rena who died in infancy, Jewel L., and Arlis D. Beck. Beside the children who survive him he leaves his widow; his mother, Mrs. A. M. Beck, four brothers and two sisters and 11 grandchildren.
The life of this man was one of the quiet useful lives, the sum of whose extent is told in a few expressive words of commendation--honest, straightforward, neighborly-- a list whose lengthing would only repeat its virtues named. In unassuming simplicity his days were lived out and ended among his children and his children's children.
Out of town relatives present at the funeral were: O. M.Beck and Mr. & Mrs. A. D. Beck of Ralls; Mrs. R. E. Beck and children of Sherman; Mr. & Mrs. A. D. Beck, son and daughter of Denton; Mr. & Mrs. Don Beck of Archer City; Mr. & Mrs. Clyde Simpson, Mrs. T. L. Simpson, Mr. W. W. Webb, Mr. Jim Coffey and family, Mr. & Mrs. Homer Coffey, all of Aubrey.
