When he was a small boy (1909)his parents moved from their farm near Bloomdale, OH to a farm near Milan, MI. He married the former Emily Blanche Lewick in 1922 and took up residence on a farm once owned by the parents of the wife of General George Custer. near Azalia, MI. In 1946 he moved to a 240 farm on Sapphire Lake near Lake City, MI. He said he wanted a place where he could fish out his back door and shoot deer out his front door.

He did some farming, some dairying, some fishing and some hunting. Arlo was a member of the Lake City (Michigan) Methodist Church.

After the passing of Blanche he married Violet L. Belles in 1950. In 1967 he and Violet parted ways at which time he moved to Auburn, IN where he married Bertha (Fisher) Hagerty.

He was not only interested in church life, but was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Grange and the Modern Woodman.
