Services were held in the Enon Baptist Church in Walthall county Thursday afternoon, April 26, for Hollis Boyd, fifty-eight year old resident of the Topeka community.
A coroner's jury presided over by Judge R. D. Wallace, justice of the peace in Beat Three, ruled the day before the funeral that Mr. Boyd died from self-inflicted wounds from a twenty guage shot gun.
Sheriff Edward Hartzog of Monticello who was called to the scene at the time of the tragedy reported that Mr. Boyd left a note stating that, because of his continue ill helath, he did not care to live longer. He made his home with a brother, Willis Boyd, at Topeka. He walked into the woods near his home and shot himself in his side, dying instantly.
The body was first brought to Hartman's Funeral Home in Monticello and carried that afternoon to the home of Willis Boyd.
Rev. M. C. Nelson, pastor of the Enon Baptist church, was in charge of the services and was assisted by Rev. W. J. Hemby. Mr. Boyd was buried in the Enon Church cemetery with the Hartman Funeral Home of Monticello in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include seven brothers: Willis Boyd, Hemby Boyd, George Boyd, Alton Boyd, James Body, John Boyd and Gene Boyd, all of Jayess, and three sisters: Mrs. Lucia Bowlin, Mrs. Milton Brister, and Mrs. H. W. Bogwell.
