John L. Whitten was the son of Marion Dekalb Whitten and Cynthia Alice Dodds, brother of Lennie L. Whitten Strickand. Also, brother to Alice and Walter Whitten who both died in infancy. Born in 1874 or 1875 in Mississippi. Died at 56 years old, 8:10 o'clock Saturday night at his home at Bagwell after a illness which lasted one year. Mr. Whitten when 8 years old moved to Lamar county, where he lived the greater part of his life. A few months before his death, he moved to Dallas where he operated a hotel until a week prior to his death when he returned to Bagwell. He is survived by his widow, Minnie Dell Nanny, son, Hubert Whitten and daughter, Alice Whitten Merchant. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Paris at 4 p.m. Sunday.
