Mattie Nerella Savant, 83, of Lake Charles died at 9:34 PM on Friday, May 2, 2008 at a local hospital.

Mrs. Savant was born to Matt and Zula Folks on September 22, 1924 in Pleasant Hill, LA and lived in Lake Charles for over sixty years. She retired after over thirty years of service as the Office Manager from Gordon's Jewelry. Mrs. Savant then worked for LeBleu's Sitters Registry as a care provider for almost ten years. She was an avid gardener and will always be remembered as "surrogate mother" to many.

Mrs. Savant is survived by her brother, Tom Odom and wife Mozella of Kilgore, TX; her companion of thirteen years (dog), Buster; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Savant and sister, Yumara Diamond.

Her funeral service were at 3:00 PM on Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Mitchell Community Center in Converse, LA. Brother Bobby Russell officiated. Burial followed in Progress Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, LA.
