STANDARD-EXAMINER (OGDEN, UT) | 9 MAY 2023

Vern Richard Sandall March 23, 1952 — May 3, 2023

"Keep it short and sweet." Rich passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the George E Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home at the age of 71. He was cracking jokes and freely voicing his opinion up until the end. Rich was born March 23, 1952, in Ogden, Utah, the son of Vern and Beth Sandall of Layton. Rich was part of the first graduating class of Layton High School in 1970. Later he went on to attain an Associate Degree in Welding.

Rich married Vicky Lynn Hatch of Kaysville on April 1, 1972. They were married 51 years. Together they had two children, a son Derk and a daughter Kelle.

He served four years in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Udorn, Thailand during the Vietnam War. Rich worked at Hill Air Force Base as a Heat Treater until his retirement in 2014.

Rich was a very artistic and talented man. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, shooting pool, singing, talking with friends over coffee, and hanging out at "The Sheds." He was an extremely skilled welder; there wasn't anything he couldn't weld.

Rich is survived by his wife, Vicky Sandall; son, Derk (Breezy Synoground); daughter, Kelle (Tyler Strand); siblings, Mary Lou (Ed) Almaguer, Dan Sandall, and Betty (Bryan) Hood; along with numerous relatives, friends of the family, and Darrell (the other brother). He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sandra Kay Bair. Rich would be honored knowing he now shares his death date with lifelong friend Wylie "Breeze" Otterstrom.

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 6 to 8 p.m., at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 Fairfield Road, where military honors will be accorded at 6 p.m. by the Brigham City Honor Guard VFW Post 1695.

The family would like to thank "Ma" and the entire staff at George E Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home for their wonderful care and sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the George E. Wahlen Home in honor of Rich. If you would like to share a comment or memory, please e-mail them to [email protected] or condolences may be shared at: www.lindquistmortuary.com.
