William is the son of John William & Emma Elizabeth (Higgs) Housden. He married Edna Blanche "Daisy" Foltz in 1914.

HOUSDEN, WILLIAM OSCAR - The sudden death Tuesday morning (09 May 1944) of this week of William Oscar Housden, 50, a prominent citizen of the Marksville section came as a shock to his family and friends. Mr. Housden had seemed in his usual health and suffered a heart attack while in his truck near the Frank Fultz residence west of Stanley about 8:00 a. m.

He was the son of the late John W. Housden and Emma Elizabeth Higgs Housden of Newport and was born on April 23, 1894. He attended the county schools and in 1927 moved from Newport to the John L. Koontz farm east of Stanley, which he purchased and had run successfully for many years. A member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge No 53 of Stanley, he was a man intensely interested in his home and community and was always willing to be of service to others whenever possible.

He is survived by his wife, the former Edna Blanche Foltz, two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Iva) Mattes and Mrs. McClure (Velma) Carroll both of Baltimore, Md. and a sister, Mrs. Clarence (Mary) Price of the Newport section. Three children died in infancy.

Interment in the Graves Chapel Cemetery. Active pallbearers: Cletus Cave, Shirley Kiblinger, Isaac Long, Ray Koontz, Ivan Koontz and Harry Long. Honorary pallbearers: Clark Kauffman, C. C. Louderback, Lester Biedler, L. O. Housden, R. D. Koontz, C. C. Graves, Morris Dunlap, A. P. Kite and C. D. Price. (PNC)
