MORTON, IL - Lewis C. Jones, age 82, of Morton, formerly of 216 Albert St. in Washington, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, at Morton Villa Nursing Home in Morton.

He was born May 25, 1925, in Mammoth Springs, Ark., to Loren C. and Edith Robertson Jones, both deceased. Lewis married Patty Lewis in 1945, and she preceded him in death. He later married Josephine M. Thompson on March 30, 1973. She survives.

Lewis was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII in the European, African and Middle Eastern campaigns. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.

He was a member of the Teamsters Local No. 627 and had been employed as a truck driver for N.E. Finch Co. in East Peoria until his retirement in 1986. Lewis was also a member of the American Legion, Limestone Post No. 979, the Bartonville VFW Post No. 3883 and the Three Lakes Sportsmans Club in Victoria, Ill.

Lewis is survived by his son, Larry (Joan) Jones of Marquette Heights; his daughters, Judy (Ron) Bright of Marquette Heights and Diane (Tom) Meinders of Peoria; his stepsons, Larry (Donna) Thompson of West Virginia and Gary (Peggy) Thompson of East Peoria; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Vivian Mellor of East Peoria; his brother, Robert Jones of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Lewis will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria Heights, with military honors at the graveside.
