John Rice and Hattie Scott were married on July 27, 1910. they moved into the rock house with his parents, James and Martha. During the time John lived with his father, he helped him build two small rent houses below the hill where the big rock house stood. John and Hattie moved into one of the small rent houses. In 1923, his fater died and John and Hatie moved back to the big rock house with Martha.
John farmed the land. They headed maize with a knife and gathered the corn in a wagon. Thrashing time was a big event.
When Martha died in 1936, John and Hattie bought the Carter place which was less that a mile from the old rock house.(1976 Old Timer)
