Husband of Lillie Hunsberger; father of William Jr, and grandfather of William, Robert, and Judi and others.

He was born in a small community Pennington, Ulverston, England. His mother was Annie Butcher. She was not married at the time of William's birth. William middle name is his father's surname, Hodgson. Annie appears to have meet William's father, James Hodgson Jr. while working for his family as a servant. Annie's family were all miners in the area. Annie disapears from the records when William is a small child. William is seen in 1901 census living with his paternal grandgfather, James Hodgson Sr. James Sr. died at the age of 75 in 1906. William immediately leaves England for the US.

On Nov. 12, 1913 he marries Lillie Neidig in Washington, although he is living in California at the time.

One child is born to this union, WIlliam Hodgson Butcher Jr. in 1918.

William worked at serveral jobs in his early years, but settled into the new field of car salesman in his middle years .

William loved fishing in the Easter Sierra Mountains. This established a tradition of family vacations in that area the survives even today. It was on one of these trips in 1934 that William was struck with an attack of appendicitis. He was taken to the small town hosptial in Independance, CA. Sadly, they could not treat him effectively and he died there on September 9, 1934 at the age of 44.
