Enlisted in the Revolutionary War from Lee, Berkshire Co., MA, serving as Private 1st NY Continental Line under Capt Leonard Bleeker & Col Van Schaick. He enlisted in Feb. 1782 as a substitute for his brother William King and served until June 8, 1783 when he was discharged under order of General George Washington.

While residing at Halfmoon, Saratoga County, NY he became acquainted with Seth Higley. According to King, about 1798 he moved to the Town of Jefferson, NY which has since been renamed the Town of Mentz, Port Byron, NY. Higley followed in the Spring of 1799. Both were early settlers of Mentz. The pension files for Philip King & Seth Higley establishes that King and Higley arrived at Port Byron separately but within several months of each other.

King kept the first tavern, about a mile west of the village, prior to 1815.

For a short time the village was named King's Settlement after his name sake.

He married Hannah Warren in 1784 and married 2nd Rebecca Dodge Davis on 2/10/1831 at the Town of Mentz by Baptist Clergyman Rev. John Jefferies.

Philip has been honored by inclusion to the "Port Byron Area Hall of Fame and Veteran Archive".

His descendants have established his service with the Daughters of the American Revolution.
