"Native of Caney, Mrs. Ashenfelter's Rites Here Thursday - Funeral Services for Coleen Ashenfelter, 23, will be held Thursday at 2 PM in the Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob McGuire, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Havana Cemetery. The casket will be closed. Mrs. Ashenfelter, a resident of Fredonia, died of gunshot wounds Monday morning. Her death was ruled a murder by the district coroner, who also ruled her divorced husband, Jerry, guilty of the shooting. He committed suicide by ramming his car into the side of a moving freight train. Coleen Ashenfelter was born Dec. 1, 1949, at Caney, the daughter of Willard P. and Mary (McLaughlin) Butler. She moved with her parents to Oklahoma in 1957 and returned to reside at Oak Valley in 1958. She attended schools at Longton. Following her marriage to Jerry Ashenfelter, she resided at Fredonia and was employed by the Kansas Bank Note Co.The Ashenfelter's were divorced earlier this month. Coleen had been baptized in the Baptist Church at Dewey, Oklahoma. Survivors include her children, Jerry James, Sarah Irene, and Cindy Marie, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Butler, her siblings, Clinton Butler, David Butler, Dwight Butler, Charles and Bob Butler, Corene Shepard, Alice Butler, Rosemary Butler, and Joan Butler, her half-brothers, Melvin McLaughlin and Joe McLaughlin, and her grandmother, Ruth Ellis."
