Sharon E. "Sam" Moomey, 88, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on his birthday, January 8, 2020, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be 11:00 to Noon, Saturday, January 11, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iow City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice in his memory.

Funeral services will follow the visitation at Noon, Saturday, January 11, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with Lyle Beaver officiating. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.

Sharon Edward Moomey was born January 8, 1932, in Muscatine the son of James and Irene (Royster) Moomey. He graduation from Muscatine High School in 1950. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1952, during the Korean War, until being honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1954. He married Gloria Garvin on February 14, 1972, in Durant. He was employed with Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company as a Journeyman for 36 years, until retiring in 1994. They then moved to Iowa City in 1999. He was a member of the Muscatine Moose Lodge. He enjoyed traveling and woodworking, especially antique clocks. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

Surviving his wife, Gloria of Iowa City; three daughters, Sara (Scott) Schaab of Rapids City, IL, Angell (Dave) Jobes of Des Moines and Cheryl (Jerry) Vaughan of Ringgold, GA; one son, Randy (Henrietta) Gilbert of Rossville, GA; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Raymond Moomey.

The family would like to thank the staff of Atrium Village of Hills and Essence of Life Hospice for the care given to Sharon.
