Howell J. Leyson
GOODING (Special) — Services for Howell J. Leyson were held at the Thompson chapel Saturday morning with the Rev. Irvin S. Motz in charge. Background music was played at the piano by Mrs. Otto Joslin. Honorary pallbearers were Harry Cannon, Dr. J. H. Cromwell, Alan D. McCombs, Dwight W. McCombs, E. Lyell Stilson, all of Gooding, and George Wedgewood of Boise. Cremation will take place at Salt Lake City.
Mr. Leyson was born Dec. 21, 1867, in Big Rock, Ill., and came to Gooding in 1909. He married Ruth Harper August 22, 1891. He was associated in the Lincoln county bank, which was later the Citizens' State bank, housed in the present city office and library building. He served as mayor from 1913 to 1917; as a county commissioner in 1931 and 1932, and as county supervisor of the department of public assistance in 1936 and 1937.
A Mason for more than 50 years, he was a charter member of Lincoln lodge No. 59, A. F. & A. M., and was its first secretary. He was also a Royal Arch Mason.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Howell J. Leyson, Jr., of Jerome; one daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Best of Kennewick, Wash., and one grandson, Donald Leyson, who is serving in the Navy.
