JOHN 'JACK' O. MERRITT
John "Jack" O. Merritt, 828 Pierce Ave., Sharpsville, died at 10:41 a.m. Saturday (5-7-94) in Butler Veterans Administration Hospital, after an extended illness. He was 66.
Mr. Merritt was born Dec. 25, 1927, in Sharpsville to Roy B. and Mary B. Orr Merritt.
A Sharpsville High School graduate, he was a Sharpsville policeman for 17 years until he retired in 1964.
He was a graduate of the state police academy and a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lakeland Lodge, Greenville.
Mr. Merritt was of the Methodist faith.
A veteran, he served with the Marines in World War II and the Navy in the Korean War.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Bernice Moran, whom he married Feb. 25, 1950; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Suzanne) Sonny, Sharpsville; two sons, John O. Jr., Sharon; and Charles R., Sharpsville; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Christopher Sonny.

Funeral at 1 p.m. Tuesday (5-10-94) in DONALDSON-MOHNEY FUNERAL HOME, 124 Main St., Sharpsville, with the Rev. Dennis Clark, pastor of the New Life Covenant Church, officiating.
Burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday (5-9-94) in the funeral home.
