Alvin Leroy Whitney, 90, of Manchester died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Long View Nursing Home in Manchester. Born Aug. 30, 1917, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Alvin O. and Gertrude Ward Whitney. He was the husband of the late Rose Lee Sullivan Whitney. He had been a supervisor for Good Humor in Baltimore. Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law Richard and Cheryl Whitney and Earl L. Whitney, all of Manchester; a daughter, Carolyn L. Whitney of Manchester; brothers Lawrence Whitney Sr. of Naples, Fla., and Johnny Whitney of Ocean City; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters Violet Kurtz, Gertrude Rill Brickerd, Catherine Palmer and Marian Martello; and brothers Earl and Howard Whitney. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead, with the Rev. Lawrence Whitney officiating. Interment will be held at Lineboro Cemetery in Lineboro. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
