J. Edward Beaven, 85 year old retired farmer of the St. Mary community, died at 11 a.m. last Wednesday at Mary Immaculate Hospital, after nearly a year's illness. A son of Ben F. and Mary Brown Beaven, he had lived at St. Mary all his life and was the last of a family of nine children. He attended schools of the county and was a graduate of St. Mary's College. He was actively engaged in agriculture until his retirement three years ago. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nell Dant Beaven. There were no children. Two nieces and two nephews survive, one of the latter being Jack Hardesty. A sister, Miss Theresa Beaven, died several months ago. The body was at Bosley Funeral Home until Friday morning when funeral services were conducted, with Solemn Requiem Mass, at St. Charles Church. The pastor, Rev. Hubert Hagan, was assisted by the Rev. John Lesousky, C. R., and the Rev. Gerald Rich, C. R., of St. Mary's College. Burial was in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were Harold Elder, Jack Beaven, Lawrence Blandford, Tom Edelen, Robert Medley, Robert Dant, Mitchell Dant, Frank Peterson, Ben and John Denny Browning.
