Funeral services for John Roland Dickinson, 76, Oskaloosa, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Fall Creek Cemetery in Jarbalo.
Mr. Dickinson died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Hickory Point Nursing Center in Oskaloosa.
He was born Dec. 27, 1931, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of George and Alma Loggans Dickinson. He received a Bachelor of Science in education from Kansas University in 1959 and a master's degree in education in 1962. He was a former resident of Leavenworth.
Mr. Dickinson served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was an elementary school principal in Leavenworth public schools from 1960 to 1978 and Fort Leavenworth schools from 1978 to 1992.
He married Rita Ann Slawson on Aug. 16, 1953, in Tonganoxie. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, John, Jeff and Jay, all of Leavenworth; two daughters, Joyce Simmons, Seymour, Mo., and Julie Tribble, Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, James, El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Rollie, Bolivar, Mo.; three sisters, Ella Mae Loomis, Irving, Texas, Ruth "Sis" Butler and Lucille Cramer, both of Stockton, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
