Fred G. Friend, 86, former Ada High School principal and Grand Rapids building contractor, died Tuesday at his home, 267 Eastern Ave., SE.

Surviving are his wife, Alice; a daughter, Mrs. Orson E. Munn; two sons, Fay and Keith, all of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Martin of Petoskey and Byron of Saranac; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Fred G. Friend married Alice Nellist, daughter of William P. & Martha (Bowman) Nellist, c. 1886.
