Joseph had been living in Bexar Co., TX when he entered the service and was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division.

He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Changnyong, South Korea on September 6, 1950.

For his leadership and valor, Sergeant First Class Aldrete was awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
