Visitation will be Thursday, March 31, 2005 at Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home, Jena from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. Friday until shortly before service time.
Mr. Steen, age 85, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 in the LaSalle General Hospital, Jena.
He was preceded in death by one son, Fred Burton Steen.
Survivors include his wife, Mavis Harp Steen of Jena; a daughter, Donna Steen Permenter of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Steen was a member of the Nolley Memorial United Methodist Church, a veteran of WWII having served as a first sergeant, Company D 37th Tank Batallion, 4th Armored Division of the U.S. Army, serving in Central Europe. He served 31 years in the state police. He was a lifetime member of the Louisiana State Police Troopers Association and a member of the VFW Post #5002. Don and his wife were members of the LaSalle Squares and participated in the Circle Eight and the Twin City Twirlers square dancing clubs until his health declined.
Pallbearers will be Wayne McGuffee, Guy Campbell, William L. Davis, Gene Steen, Johnny Ray Steen and Mickey Steen.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Baker Sunday school class and the Louisiana State Police.
