Francis Brock came to the township from North Carolina about 1810. Starting in life with nothing, he located on a small farm which he bought of Insley. He lived in a rude round-log cabin for a few years and then erected a hewed-log house. This gave way in 1839 to a brick house, the second in the township. He kept adding to his holdings until he owned more than two thousand acres, about half of which was in the township. He was a great worker in the Methodist Church, and contributed very liberally to its support until his death in 1857.
