Mrs. Sarah E. Lain
Sarah Brunson, eldest daughter of David and Mary Brunson, was born in Lee county, Iowa, December 28, 1845; and died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Cora Masters, 615 W. VanBuren street, Centerville, Iowa, Friday, February 1, 1930, at 12:15 p.m. She was aged 83 years, 1 month and 5 days.
When she was sixteen years old she came with her parents to Appanoose county and this county has since that time been her home.
On April 10, 1865, she was united in marriage with Mr. Joseph Lain. They lived at the homestead northwest of Walnut City for many years. Mrs. Lain was the mother of six children. Mary, the oldest, died at the age of six years, Winnie Haynes died August 13, 1912, and Nannie Davison died April 29, 1914. The surviving children are: Mrs. Cora Masters of Centerville, Iowa; Leona Close of Wyoming; and Orville Lain on the old home place near Walnut City. There are 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and one sister; Charles Brunson of Plano, Iowa, Tom Brunson of Puente, California; and Mrs. Martha Enterline of Nash, Oklahoma.
Mr. Lain died June 2, 1900. After the death of her husband Mrs. Lain moved to Centerville and kept up her own home for several years. For the last few years she has made her home with her children. For some time past she has been gradually losing her eyesight. She had become almost totally blind, able only to distinguish light. The infirmity of age was upon her, and she was failing, however her death came quite suddenly.
Mrs. Lain has been a life long member of the church, having joined with the Walnut City church of the Disciples of Christ in the year 1863.
The funeral was held at the Concord Church northwest of Walnut City, Monday, February 3, 1930, Rev. L. H. Lanning, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Centerville having charge of the service. Her body was laid at rest beside her husband's in the cemetery at that place.
