Son of William Blundell and Mary (Fryer) Arnold. He came to Texas with his parents in 1847 and in 1851 began life for himself in Hopkins County until 1853 when he left for the California gold mines where he stayed until 1859. He then returned to Johnson County where he parents lived. He enlisted in Company H, Young's regiment in the Civil War, but after a year was discharged with poor health, and he returned to Johnson County where he ranched and became affluent. He was elected sheriff of Johnson County, was Baptist, and a Mason.

He married Aminda Abigail Winchester.

Their children are Harrison A., Oliver Isaac, John Absolum, Mary Emma, George Arnold, Everett Lee, Samuel Hood, Alberta Jane, Fannie, Meritt Byrd, James Otis, and Nannie.
