Joshua Adam Hodel
3 August 1984 to 22 April 2008

Joshua "Josh" Hodel passed away Tuesday morning, April 22, 2008 at the age of 23 from complications brought on by pneumonia. Josh was the youngest of the six children of Paul E. Hodel and Linda M. (Ameen) Hodel of El Dorado.

Josh was born August 3, 1984 in Fresno, California and lived in the foothills in Prather until he was almost 5. In July 1989 he moved with his family to El Dorado County, living first in the Mosquito area then moving to the town of El Dorado in 1992 where he resided the remainder of his life.

During his school years, Joshua, who was born with Down's Syndrome, attended special education classes at the following local schools: Schnell, Winnie Wakely, Gold Oak, Markham, El Dorado High School and Tunnel Street. For the past two years he has attended Motherlode Rehabilitation Enterprise (MORE). Joshua was the consummate Good Will Ambassador; his greatest joy in life was meeting people and making new friends. His love for others was boundless and he brought joy to all who met him. He did his best to not let his disabilities hold him back, earning his Arrow of Light in Boy Scouting. He loved camping and traveling. Josh enjoyed working out at the gym and was enthusiastic about Karate, having recently advanced to a Purple Belt. He will be remembered by all as a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

Josh is preceded in death by his mother, Linda, who passed away last December. He is survived by his father, Paul Hodel. Other survivors include brothers: Richard Harris and his wife Jennifer of Ferron, Utah, Jim Harris and his wife Jackie of St. George, Utah, Matthew Hodel and Tracy of Reno, Nevada, Michael Hodel, of Newark, California, and William Hodel of El Dorado, California as well as four cousins, four nephews and three nieces.

A Celebration of Joshua's life will be held Saturday, May 3rd at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3275 Cedar Ravine, Placerville. All who knew him are invited to the Celebration of Joshua's Life. He will be interred next to his mother at Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery in Cameron Park in a private family service. The family requests that any remembrances you would like to make in Joshua's memory be made to your local Special Olympics or other special program to assist those with disabilities.
