Ruth DeLong Adams, age 96, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2008 in an Abilene hospital.

Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Albany with Revs. Bart Burgess and Johnny Viertel officiating. Burial will be in the Albany Cemetery under the care and direction of Godfrey - Neese Funeral Home.

Ruth was born on August 29, 1911. She married Arthur Adams on March 8, 1931 in Albany, Texas. Ruth grew up in Eliasville (founded by her great grandfather, Elias DeLong). She lived in Throckmorton County until moving to Albany in 1929. She graduated from Albany High School in 1929. Ruth taught Sunday School, was a YWA leader, Camp Fire Leader and worked at their grocery store during World War II.

Survivors include: one daughter, Betty Viertel; one daughter-in-law, Linda Adams; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by: her husband, Arthur Adams in 1978, her son James Adams in 1997, brothers Hugh DeLon and George DeLong, Jr.... and a sister, Willie Mae Cleveland.
