Lydia Holley gave her place of birth on the 1850 census as South Carolina. She may have been born in North Carolina. Per Bible records, she was the seventh child and fourth daughter born to Richard Holley. Per the Bible records, Richard Holley first married Elizabeth Unknown. Due to a lack of other records, it is unknown when/where Elizabeth died and Richard married secondly, Mary, who is listed in his will. Without marriage records, it is unknown which woman was the mother of his respective children. Per the Bible records, Lydia's siblings were: Richard Holley, Jr., William, Margaret, Keziah, Zachariah, Ann, John, Joel, Daniel and Pinckney. Four of the children were not named in Richard's will: William, Margaret, Joel and Pinckney. Richard wrote his will on Apr. 24, 1825. It was probated on May 23, 1825 at Kershaw County, South Carolina.


Lydia married Hugh B. Davison circa 1805 as their first born child's birth is recorded as 1806. The marriage presumably took place in Kershaw County, SC. Her father and Hugh Davison are both on the 1810 census for Kershaw County, NC. Hugh purchased land in Monroe County, Alabama on May 5, 1819. He is on the 1830 and 1840 census at Monroe County. Lydia is on the 1850 census at Monroe County, living with their son, George Washington Davison.


Lydia and Hugh were the parents of William Holley, Elizabeth, Joanna, Hugh E., George Washington and James Madison Holley.
