Trip to California Proves Unavailing
EVERETT, Nov 14 - News has just reached this city of the death in Los Angeles, Cali, Nov 5.
of former clerk of the common council Deoscar F. Allen. Mr Allen resigned his clerkship two months ago on account of failing health, and the news of his death does not come as a surprise. Mr Allen and his family went first to Denver, but the climate there proving too rigorous they left for California.
Deoscar F. Allen was a well-known man in this city, and his position as shipkeeper of the Constitution made his field of friends much larger than the confines of his home. He was born in Lowell 39 years ago, but had lived in Everett many years. He was prominent in the local councils of the republican party, and every year saw him as a member of one or two important delegations. Mr Allen served in the Everett common council in 1895 and 1896.
In 1898 he was elected clerk of the council, a position he held up to the time of his resignation.
Mr Allen was a member of Charity lodge, F. and A. M. of Cambridge.
The remains will probably arrive in this city Friday. Burial will be at Lowell.
Pres Downing has appointed Councilmen Currier and Stebbins to serve with him at the funeral. Councilmen Randall, Straight and Chambers have been appointed a committee on resolutions.
